Most air fryer advice online comes from one of two places. There are recipe blogs that tell you what to cook in it, and there are large review labs that tell you which one to buy. Between them, almost nobody explains the machine itself — why it trips your breaker, why the heating element starts smoking after eight months, what an E1 code actually means, or what it genuinely costs to run for an hour a day.
That gap is why this site exists.
Kitchen Gear Space is a small independent publication focused on the engineering side of countertop cooking appliances. Our background is in electrical and electronic engineering, not food media. We are more interested in power draw, circuit load, thermal cutoffs and failure modes than in whether the fries came out golden — there are already excellent sites covering the fries.
What we publish
Troubleshooting and failure analysis. Error codes, breaker trips, smoke, burning smells, units that stop heating. What causes each one, which are user- fixable, and which mean the appliance is finished.
Electrical and safety guidance. Circuit requirements, clearance distances, running costs, and the practical realities of putting a 1,700-watt appliance on a kitchen counter that may already be feeding a microwave and a toaster.
Specification analysis. Model comparisons built from published specifications, power figures and documented owner reports — with our reasoning shown, so you can disagree with it.
Cooking guides. Times and temperatures compiled from manufacturer documentation and cross-checked against published sources, with the variables that actually change the answer spelled out.
Who writes here
Articles are published under the Kitchen Gear Space name rather than an individual byline.
We think how the work is done matters more than whose name sits on top of it — and, just as much, where that work reaches its limits. We have written both out in detail on our How We Evaluate page, including a plain statement of what we do not do. We would rather you knew that going in than assumed we had earned something we haven’t.
