How We Evaluate

This page explains how the recommendations and explanations on this site are produced. It is deliberately specific, because “we research thoroughly” is a sentence anyone can write.

What we don’t do

We are starting here, because it matters more than anything else on this page.

We do not operate a test kitchen. We have not cooked in every appliance we write about. When you read a comparison here, you are reading specification analysis and a synthesis of documented owner experience — not the output of a controlled cooking trial.

Sites like Consumer Reports and RTINGS run instrumented labs. They measure actual usable capacity against the manufacturer’s claim, take decibel readings, and run repeat cook tests across identical batches. We do not, and we are not going to imply otherwise. If your question is “which of these makes the crispiest fries,” their testing beats our reasoning, and we will often link you to it.

We do not assess taste or texture first-hand. Where we describe cooking results, we are reporting what manufacturers document and what owners consistently report — not what we personally ate.

We do not review every model on the market. We cover what we can analyse properly. A model missing from a comparison is usually a model we did not have enough reliable information about.

What we do

1. Electrical analysis. This is the part of the site we would defend anywhere. A 1,750-watt air fryer on a 120-volt circuit draws roughly 14.6 amps. A standard 15-amp North American kitchen circuit is rated for a continuous load of 12 amps. That single arithmetic relationship explains a large share of the “my air fryer keeps tripping the breaker” complaints on the internet, and almost nothing written for home cooks says it plainly. We work through this kind of analysis — startup surge, continuous draw, shared-circuit load, thermal cutoff behaviour — because it is where our background is genuinely useful.

All electrical guidance on this site assumes standard North American residential wiring: 120 V, 60 Hz, 15 A or 20 A branch circuits. If you are outside North America, the arithmetic changes and our figures will not apply directly.

2. Specification verification. We take specifications from manufacturer documentation and user manuals rather than retailer listings, because retailer listings are frequently wrong or out of date. Where a stated capacity differs from usable capacity, or where a wattage figure is missing from the marketing and only appears on the rating plate, we say so.

3. Owner report analysis. For failure modes and durability, we read verified- purchase reviews, manufacturer support forums, recall notices and public safety databases systematically rather than anecdotally. We are looking for repeated patterns across many units — not one angry review. When we describe a common failure, we mean we found it recurring across independent reports, and we say roughly how often and where.

4. Sourcing. Factual claims link to their source. If a claim has no source, it is our reasoning, and we mark it as such so you can weigh it accordingly.

Corrections

We get things wrong. When we do, we fix the article, and we note what changed and when at the bottom of the page — we do not quietly edit and move on.

If you spot an error, email contact@kitchengearspace.com. Owner corrections on specific models are especially useful to us, since we are working from documentation rather than a shelf full of appliances.

Conflicts of interest

We earn affiliate commissions on some outbound links. That creates an obvious incentive to recommend expensive things, so here is how we handle it:

  • Commission rates play no part in which products we include or how we rank them.
  • We do not accept payment for placement, sponsored inclusion, or paid reviews.
  • We do not accept free units in exchange for coverage.
  • No brand or affiliate partner sees an article before it publishes.
  • Where the honest answer is “keep the one you have” or “this problem is worth a $12 replacement part, not a new machine,” that is what we write — and we have.

Updates

Appliance models are discontinued and revised constantly. Comparison articles are reviewed on a rolling basis and carry a last-updated date. Troubleshooting and electrical articles change less, but are re-checked when standards or product lines change.
